Here at Beard & Bardot, we love kids. We love the silly things they say, and their cute laughs, and how adorable they look walking out of the salon after a fresh cut and style! However, not every kid seems to love us. It’s understandable, the salon is big, bright, loud, and filled with unfamiliar people. There are a few things you can do to make the process a little easier for your kid (and for you!). These are just a few ideas, but you know your kid best so if there is anything, we can do to make it easier, let us know and we will do everything we can to make your little tyke enjoy their time here.
Introduce them to the salon and their stylist before the appointment
Nothing is scarier to a little kid than a totally unfamiliar place, and a stranger in their personal space. Come in a day or two before for 5-10 minutes, let them get a feel for the space and maybe even sit in the chair, and have them meet the stylist. That way when they come in for their appointment, it doesn’t seem as new, and hopefully they won’t be scared.
Bring a comfort item!
If you have quite a small kid who really needs something familiar, bring their favourite teddy bear or blanket for them to hold and see throughout the haircut. The comfort that stems from that item will make the whole process seem easier to the child.
Sit with them!
For some of our youngest clients, they are not going to be happy sitting alone. Our stylists are definitely willing and able to work around you if you have your little one sitting in your lap instead of by themselves.
Bringing them along for your appointments!
This one may not always be possible, especially if your little one isn’t content sitting still for a long time but bringing them along for your haircuts a few times before they have to get one may normalize the environment and experience. Especially if you start doing that while they are quite young.
No matter what, we love to see you and your kids, but we don’t want to scare them! Whatever we can do to make their experience wonderful we will try to do, but we also understand that some kids just won’t like it no matter what. Hopefully some of these tips will help ease their fear, but if not, we understand.
Either way, we can’t wait to see you and your mini’s the next time we get to welcome you in the salon!
